How to set up BetBlocker
BetBlocker is a free blocker run by a charity. There is no account and no sign-up, and it takes about two minutes. Once you lock in a block, it can't be removed until the time you chose runs out. That is the point, so pick a length you can live with.
Step 1: Get the app
Download BetBlocker from the App Store or Google Play. For Windows, Mac, and other devices, start at betblocker.org.
Step 2: Test it first (Android tip)
BetBlocker suggests trying Parental Control mode first. That mode can be turned off with a password, so you can make sure it blocks what you need before you commit.
Step 3: Choose how long
Pick a blocking period. Options run from hours to years. If you are not sure, start with something meaningful, like 6 or 12 months. You can always add more later.
Step 4: Turn it on
Activate the block. On Android this is called Gambling Self-Restriction. It uses a local VPN and may ask for accessibility permission. Allow what it asks for, or the block won't stick.
Step 5: Cover every device
Install it on every phone, tablet, and computer you use. BetBlocker allows unlimited devices for free.
Good to know
- BetBlocker support will not remove a block early, even if you ask. That protects you later.
- If a betting site slips through, use the in-app Suggest a website to block option.
- BetBlocker is volunteer-run. Be patient if you email them.
